[edit] Summary

In this class you'll learn how to finish your seams and how to make a waistband.

Note: If you're working with a fabric that will fray, you should finish each seam. If it doesn't fray, you can leave the seam unfinished.

[edit] Zig-Zag

To finish your seams with a zig-zag stitch, press your seams open. Then, stitch carefully along the edge of the fabric, taking one stitch with the needle just off of the fabric, and the next in the fabric.

[edit] Pinked Edges

To finish your seams with [javascript:newWindow('graphics/pinkingshears.jpg') pinking shears], use the shears to cut just along the edge of your seams. Then, press the seam open. (This is very good for light fabrics, when you don't want to add bulk to your seams.
